Richard Edward “Eddie” Tyler, age 61, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on March 24, 2017 in Iola. Richard was one of eleven children born to Dave J. Tyler and Alma P. Tyler. He was born July 1, 1955 in Colony, Kansas. Richard was a graduate of Iola High School in May of 1973. After graduation, Richard served in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He then served in the United States Army for 9 years. He was employed at area nursing homes. Richard married Ocie F. Dobbs in 1976 and they later divorced. For the last 15 years Richard has resided with his partner, Pam Gurwell. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers James, William and Dave Tyler, and Larry Thomas; and sister Janet Nash. He is survived by his four children, Eric Tyler and wife, Jamie, of Girard, Kansas, Stacey Tyler and partner Colby Neville of Arma, Kansas, Jim Davis and partner, Edna Thompson, of Iola, Kansas, Lynn Warren and husband, Jack, of Andover, Kansas, Alyssa Osborne and husband, Allen, of Iola, Kansas, and Aaron Gurwell of Chanute, Kansas; 10 grandchildren Blake Tyler, Peyton Scholes, Ciara and Camri Neville, Chelsea Davis and Kaylee Clugston, Stephen, Hailey and Hannah Warren, and Emily Mollins; three brothers George Thomas of Leesville, Louisiana, Victor Thomas of Athens, Georgia and Luther Tyler of Texas; two sisters Anne Collins of Omaha, Nebraska and Bonnie Kincaid of Erie, Kansas. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Richard include a visitation from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Cremation will follow, with inurnment at Fort Scott National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 5 at 10:00 A.M. Contributions in Richard’s memory can be made to the Richard E. Tyler Memorial Fund.
