Ricky “Rick” D. Ellis, age 54, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Life Care Center of Burlington, Kansas.
Rick was born December 30, 1965 to Oliver “Bill” Ellis and Lois (Shepard) Ellis. He attended and then graduated from Crest High School. He worked as the supervisor for Anderson County Road and Bridge Department for more than twenty years. Rick also farmed in the evening along side Kendall McGhee for almost a decade.
Rick enjoyed taking care of his cattle. As long as the sun was out, Rick could be found working. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. He also enjoyed watching the KU Jayhawks play. When given the opportunity, he would attend rodeos and horse pulls. He had immense love for his great nieces and embraced them as his own.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry Ellis and Randy Ellis; two sisters, Sheila Mann and Lesa Sherwood; and nephew, Terry Ellis.
Rick is survived by four brothers, Guy Ellis and wife, Linda of Ottawa, Kansas, Jack Ellis and wife Marylyn, of Humboldt, Kansas, Rex Ellis and wife, Loretta of Iola, Kansas, Ron Ellis and wife, Debra of LeRoy, Kansas; one sister, Patsey Baker and husband, Doyle of Olathe, Kansas; and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Rick will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in The Chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
