Robert J. Burdett, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at his home.
Bob was born on July 3, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the fourth of four children born to James Daniel and Elizabeth (Manly) Burdett. Bob grew up in Kansas City, graduating from Westport High School. Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Harper on June 9, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. This union was blessed with three children. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956 - 1958. He graduated from the University of Missouri with an Accounting degree. They first made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, moving to Overland Park, Kansas in 1968. Bob worked for the General Services Administration as an accountant, retiring after 33 years. In his retirement he overcame boredom by working for ECKAN as an accountant for several years. In 1982 Bob and Carolyn desired a life away from "the city", they settled in Garnett in 1992, where Bob enjoyed his retirement years. Bob enjoyed going to Chiefs, Royals, and Mizzou games. He was a dedicated fan throughout the years following his teams. In his free time Bob enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading the Bible, and watching golf.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Burdett on August 9, 2016; brother, James Burdett; and sister, Betty Burdett.
Bob is survived by his children, John P. Burdett and wife, Tyra of Olathe, Kansas; Mary Hunt and husband, Garen of Garnett, Kansas; Beth Vail and husband, Marty of Spring Hill, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren; and one brother, Tom Burdett of Kansas City, Missouri.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at
