Robert Fredrick Certain

Robert Fredrick Certain, age 87, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kansas. Bob was born on July 6, 1925, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Fredrick and Katherine L. (Fellers) Certain. He grew up in the area, graduating from Oklahoma City Central High School in 1946. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was united in marriage to Esther Gordon on August 30, 1952, in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters. Bob worked as a machinist for 38 years at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, retiring on June 1, 1988. He was active in volunteering through the First Baptist Church and Golden Heights, both of Garnett. Bob was also active in Indian Southern Baptist Church at Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther Certain; two sisters, Nora Matthews and Betty Elkins; and two brothers, Clyde F. Certain and George Certain. Bob is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Certain of Benton, Kansas; Melody Sue Certain and husband Jarod Muncy of Garnett, Kansas; three grandchildren, Roxann Brecheisen of Garnett, Kansas; Manny Certain and Maurice Certain, both of Garnett, Kansas; great granddaughter, Eva Rose Brecheisen; sister-in-law, Dorothy Thompson of Kechi, Kansas; and brothers-in-law Bobby Gordon of Kansas City, Kansas; and Jim Gordon of Pomona, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to First Baptist Church of Garnett; Grandchildren's Education Fund; or to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care and left in care of the funeral home.
