Robert G. Hiestand

Robert G. Hiestand, age 88, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at Golden Heights in Garnett. He was born on October 19, 1925, in Milo, Missouri, the son of Daniel M. and Mildred L. (Parks) Hiestand. His family moved to Anderson County in a wagon when Bob was a young boy. They lived near Mont Ida before settling near Welda. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 and he was stationed in the Philippines. On January 10, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Betty R. Teter in Ottawa, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. They made their home near Colony, Kansas where he was a farmer from 1950 to 1995, when they moved to Garnett. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty on June 3, 2000; son-in-law, Lyle Schulte; and two sisters, Ruby Ensley and Betty Adams. Bob is survived by two sons, Clyde Eugene Hiestand of Warrensburg, Missouri; Richard Lee Hiestand of Shawnee, Kansas; one daughter, Kathryn Marie Schulte of Colony, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Sam Hiestand and wife, Freida, of Garnett, and George Hiestand and wife, Jan, of Arvada, Colorado; sister, Judy Blubaugh and husband, Roger, of Olathe, Kansas; and 1 aunt, Vera Wills of Garnett. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Garnett. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett. Family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett.
