Robert Daniel "Bob" Lancaster, 72, of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Robert was born June 15, 1938, at St. Paul, Kansas, the son of Cyril Robert and Ellen Marie (Kennedy) Lancaster. He moved with his family to Louisville, Kentucky. He returned to the Chanute area and graduated from Chanute High School in 1956. Robert joined the United States Army and served from 1959 to 1962 including time in Germany when the Berlin Wall was being built. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he made his home at St. Paul, Wichita, Dallas and the Kansas City area before settling in El Dorado, Kansas. On March 6, 1971, Bob married Margie Ann Hodgens and they made their home in El Dorado before moving to Ft. Scott. They had twin daughters before the marriage ended in divorce. He obtained full custody of his daughters and raised them by himself. They moved to Humboldt in 1986 from Ft. Scott and then to Iola in 1988. Robert worked as an electrician for Kansas Gas & Electric and retired from Westar Energy in 2000. He enjoyed his woodworking and making handmade clocks and lamps out of cedar logs. He also collected junk and had extensive collections of pocket knives, clocks, violins and unusual tools. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and attended the Truth Church in Iola. SURVIVORS: Twin Daughters: Shiela Chandler & husband, Jason of DeQuincy, LA and Sharon Kilby & husband, Jim of Iola, KS 3 Grandchildren: Ashley Chandler, Kaitlynn and Hannah Kilby 3 Siblings: John L. Lancaster of Wichita, KS, Mary K. Stephan of Walnut, KS and June Roberts of Raytown, MO Many friends He was preceded in death by his parents. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola BURIAL: 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2010, in the Fort Scott National Cemetery MEMORIAL: Truth Church Building Fund Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
