Robert Laver "Bob", age 85, passed away Saturday August 27, 2016 with his immediate family present. Robert was born at home and attended Bethel school in Allen County. At age 14, he began working on oil leases. He joined the Navy, at age 17, after his mother signed for him to do so. He attended the U.S. Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois and served as a machinist mate in the Navy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a body and fender man at Talley Chevrolet. Robert and Jean were married at a wedding chapel in Oklahoma in 1957. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Debbie and Beverly. Robert and Jean farmed for 33 years, and owned and operated a trucking business. Robert Laver was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Pearl and two brothers, Jack and Merle. He is survived by his wife, Jean, two daughters, Debbie and Beverly, and a sister, Wilma Jean, 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Drew, John and Melissa, and 2 great grandchildren, Max and Olivia as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 3p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Iola Baptist Temple, 426 N. 2nd , Iola, KS 66749, with visitation beginning an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Gas City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hope For The Warriors and may be left with the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service of Iola, who is in charge of arrangements.
