Robert D. Nickelson

Robert "Bob" Dean Nickelson, age 85, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care in Garnett. He was born on May 3, 1929, at Blue Mound, Kansas, the son of Charles and Cementha "Mattie" (Worthington) Nickelson. Bob grew up in the Blue Mound area and his family moved to Garnett in 1946. Bob was united in marriage to Dolly Shields on August 8, 1952. This union was blessed with a daughter, Roberta. He worked for the City of Garnett on the road crew for many years before retiring. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mattie Nickelson; his wife, Dolly Nickelson; daughter, Roberta Starbuck; two brothers, Donald and Junior Nickelson; one nephew, Joseph Dyer; and three great grandchildren, Charles Ray Helms III, Stormy Leann Helms, and April Helms. He is survived by two sisters, Hazel Louise Rannabarger of Belton, Missouri; Mary Ellen Bowman of Emporia, Kansas; one brother, Jack Nickelson of Gilbert, Arizona; grandson, Charles Ray Helms II and wife Angela of New Hampton, Missouri; two granddaughters, Bonnie Garrett and husband Robert of Independence, Missouri, Shelia Starbuck of Spring Hill, Kansas; great grandchildren, Dean and LilyAnn, Ace and Cementha, Robert, Xavier and Logan, Morgan, Haylee, Ronnie, Justin, Ethan and Truman; son-in-law, Arvle Starbuck of Garnett, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas, burial in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Nickelson Memorial Fund.
