Franklin Robert Payne, 79, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Robert was born October 13, 1936, in Allen County, the son of George Albert and Hazel (Colgin) Payne. The family moved to Colony and that is where he grew up. On December 24, 1959, Robert married Rosella M. Fulton in Iola. He served in the U.S. Army and they made their home in Colony and Iola before settling in LaHarpe. He worked in the oil fields and in farming before working as a mechanic for Allen County Public Works until he retired. Survivors include his wife of almost 56 years, Rosella Payne of the home, daughter Sandra Payne of Iola, son Robert E. Payne of Emporia, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Homer Payne & wife, Marilyn of Iola, Floyd Payne of Pittsburg, KS and Harold Payne & wife, Patsy of Colony, KS, and his sister, Madge Leatherman of Chanute, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Carl Payne and George Payne, Jr. and sister Alberta Crone. Cremation has taken place.
