Robert "Bob" Vernon Sherbon, age 79, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born on January 15, 1932, at Hayes, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Regania (Sperry) Sherbon. He grew up in western Kansas and later moved to the Manhattan area, where he attended Manhattan High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. Robert enlisted in the Air Force in January of 1951 during the Korean Conflict and served 4 years as a flight engineer in western Texas. Robert married Leona Marie Smith in November of 1953 in Manhattan, Kansas, and later moved to Monett, Missouri. From this union 5 daughters were born. They later divorced in 1972. Robert married Susan Louise Moorhead in November of 1983 at Cassville, Missouri. He worked for Monett Farmers Exchange as a driver, and then went to work for Monalco Inc., in Monett. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where he worked for Harry S. Barr Co. as assistant plant manager. From there he drove for Kroblin Trucking out of Waterloo, Iowa. Then they moved to Cassville, Missouri where he worked for Wells Alum. as an assistant plant manager. They later relocated to Garnett, Kansas, where he worked for Regal Ind., Guaranteed Products and Day Window as assistant plant manager. After this, he worked for Patterson Farm Trucking as dispatcher and driver until he retired in 1995. He worked part time for Beckman Motors after retiring until his health failed. Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting, and golfing when he got a chance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Regania Sherbon; four uncles, Max, Clifford, Ralph, and Milford; two aunts, Helen and Alice, who all raised him from 4 months of age; brother, John R. Sherbon and brother-in-law Wendell Storer. Robert is survived by his wife Susan Sherbon of the home; five daughters, Linda M. Killough and husband Ray of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; Caroline K. Whitby of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Regania V. Peterson and husband Brent of Monett, Missouri; Jerrie L. Reick and husband Tim of St. George, Kansas; Julia M. Anderson and husband Cliff of Manhattan, Kansas; one son, Jonathan W. Sherbon and wife Michelle of Garnett, Kansas; stepson Christopher D. Shepard and wife Debra of Hazelton, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; one sister Regaina R. Storer of Osborne, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Lena May of Sedan, Kansas; Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
