Roberta "Bobbie" McGie

Roberta “Bobbie” McGie passed away peacefully in her home full of grace surrounded by loved ones & prayers on Sunday, February 17, 2019. Roberta Louise (Curtis) McGie was born on Friday, December 11, 1931 to Theodore R. and Dorothea I. (Dickerson) Curtis in Geneva, KS.  She grew up on the family farm in Geneva with 2 sisters, Cheryl & Martha Jean.  She graduated from Iola High School in 1950. She married Billy G. McGie on December 5, 1954 in Iola, KS.  They later divorced. Together they had 5 children: Debi, Steve, Deanna, Mike, and Deidra.  She attended Allen County Community College, Fort Scott Community College, and Pittsburg State University.  Throughout the course of her life, she held many jobs and titles.  She was a stay-at-home mother/ homemaker, a head start teacher, and she worked at the county for more than 20 years (first in the Treasurer’s Office and later in Public Works). Bobbie loved butterflies and the color cobalt blue, as anyone who knew her well knew.  In her retirement, she loved to sit outside by her fish pond and work in her flower gardens, watching butterflies and birds.  Bobbie really loved to go fishing, so long as she didn’t have to touch the worms herself!  When the weather kept her inside, she enjoyed crocheting and frequently made blankets and scarves for her loved ones.  She truly enjoyed being outside though, especially if she was with her family and her animals.  Bobbie’s family made sure she had plenty of opportunities to cross items off her bucket list.  She attended a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium and enjoyed frequent plane and glider rides with a family friend.  She even learned to drive a four-wheeler!  She traveled with close friends and family to places like Branson and Springfield, Missouri, as well a trip-of-a-lifetime to Maui and Kauai, Hawaii.  She watched her grandchildren and great-grandchildren every chance she got (and was sometimes reluctant to give them back).  She was well-loved and called “Mom” and “Grandma” by friends of her kids and grandkids who couldn’t help but “adopt” her as their own. Bobbie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved cuddling babies, talking with her family and her little dog too!  She loved the opportunities she had for one-on-one time with her grandbabies, great-grandbabies and always volunteered for them.  Who didn’t stop by just for a “visit” when they were in the neighborhood?  Her house was always filled with love.  She had 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren who are going to miss their “Mom”, “Grandma Gie”, “Mammy”, or “Iggy” very much. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Martha Jean, and son-in-law Rich Reeder. She is survived by 5 children: Debi Reeder, Steve McGie and wife Tanya, Deanna Helms, Mike McGie and wife Gin, Deidra Johnson and husband Stanley and by her sister Cheryl “CC” Klingensmith and husband Richard.  Her grandchildren are Scott (Zelda) Reeder, Mindy (Mike) Aronson, Addie Reeder, Heather Crownover, Rachel (Kevin) Covey, Sarah (Dustin) LaCrone, Stephanie McGie, Ashley (Clint) Hornberger, Tripp Helms, Kim (Casey) Knight, Scott (Fawn) Strickler, Kelsey McGie, Darren Johnson and Caleb “KB” Johnson.  Her great-grandchildren are Justin Reeder, Miraz and Jasmine Schlotterbeck, Caine Duran, Mia and Piper Aronson, Hayden and Gabby Crownover, Corbin Bowers, Karoline and Rylan Covey, Payton, Evan, & Jace LaCrone, Case, CJ, and Cord Hornberger, Palmer Knight, Beckham Strickler, Tavia Skahan, and Trenton and Clayton Johnson; and numerous other relatives. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday February 20, 2019 in the Chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 Us Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas. Funeral Services will be 9:30 A.M. on Thursday February 21, 2019 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Geneva Cemetery, Colony, Kansas. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, and can be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
