Roger Austin Howerton

Roger Austin Howerton, age 82, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away August 27, 2022. Roger was born October 23, 1939, in Savonburg, Kansas, to Olaf Millard (Bill) Howerton and Lillian Estelle (Austin) Howerton.

Roger served in the United States Air Force and then went to college in Champaign, Illinois, earning a master's degree in physics. He was a teacher and then worked as a government physicist at Holloman Air Force Base, White Sands, New Mexico, until his retirement.

Roger enjoyed travelling with Darrel, Loren, and their wives after retirement. He was interested in all things Civil War and he liked walking Civil War battlefields.

Roger's brothers, Bernard, Darrel, Loren, Gary, and his sister, Winnie, all preceded him in death.

Roger spent his last days with nephew, Craig Howerton (Darrel's son) and sister-in-law, Pat Howerton (Loren's wife) in his home, until he had to go to the hospital.

To honor Roger's life, a graveside service with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Swedish Cemetery, Savonburg, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Swedish Cemetery, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
