Ronald Joseph Benus, age 63, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. Ron was born on July 22, 1947, at Garnett, Kansas, the son of Ivan and Vera (Hermreck) Benus. He grew up in the area, graduating from Garnett High School in 1965. Ron married Sherry Bingamon in 1969; two children were born to this union. They later divorced. Ron lived most of his life in Overland Park or the Johnson County area. He lived in Ottawa for the last 6 years. Ron worked as a salesman in truck and trailer sales and concrete construction before he began working as an over the road truck driver. He drove for various companies in the Kansas City area from 2000 until he became ill in 2010. He enjoyed watching sports and working on and restoring old cars. His greatest joy was his family, children and grandchildren, and being involved in their activities. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sherry Benus. He is survived by his son, Jeff Benus and wife Lisa of Maysville, Missouri; his daughter, Jennifer Runyan and husband Dennis of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Russell Benus of Ottawa, Kansas; five grandchildren, Kristin Black and husband Kollin; Kyle Cox; Miranda Wright; Hannah Draper; Haylee Draper; and one great granddaughter, Saige Black. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 219 S. Oak, Garnett, Kansas 66032. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
