Ronald L Bumstead Jr.

Ronald L. Bumstead, age 61, of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 23, 1956, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Reverend Ronald L. and Connie (McKinley) Bumstead. Ron graduated from Humboldt High School and from Allen County Community College with Police Science. Ron married Marilyn Owens on July 10, 1977 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. This union was blessed with two sons, Nathan and Matthew. He worked in hay fields growing up as well as Humboldt I.G.A., and Humboldt Grain. Ron was a Humboldt Reserve Police Officer and worked his way up to become Humboldt Police Chief. He then became the Allen County Undersheriff for seven years. On February 1, 1988, he started working at Gates Rubber Company in the warehouse until the present time. Ron worked on the family farm and also farmed for others for many years. Ron enjoyed raising cattle and sheep; loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He loved to garden, especially with his grandchildren. Ron and Marilyn always made it a point to make it to their sons' sporting events. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. He was also a proud member of the Boy Scouts working his way up to the Order of the Arrow. He was preceded in death by father, Reverend Ronald L. Bumstead; one brother, Kimberly "Kim" Bumstead; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Ruby Owens. Ron is survived by his wife, Marilyn Bumstead, of the home; two sons, Nathan Bumstead and wife Monica of Humboldt; Matthew Bumstead and wife Brooke of Girard; seven grandchildren, Amber Janzen and husband David, Carrie Mock and husband Luke, Sebastian Mock, Sydnea and Jazzmyn Bumstead, Breckin Guenther, and Rhett Bumstead; and four great grandchildren; mother, Connie Bumstead of Humboldt; two brothers, Kevin Bumstead and wife Sue, Jonathan Bumstead and wife Lynn; one sister, Beth Cave; and sister-in-law, Pam Bumstead; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, with burial to follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt. The family will greet friends on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Iola.
