Ronald Joseph Murcko passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
Ronald Joseph Murcko was born on May 24, 1940, to Joseph and Elsie (Tucker) Murcko in Flint, Michigan. He joined the United States Air Force in 1958. After training he was stationed in Iwo Jima and Japan. Returning to the United States in 1960, he was stationed at Richards Gebaur AFB, Missouri. It was at this time that he met and married his wife, Shirley, on December 18, 1960. In 1962, he returned overseas for an 18-month tour where he as stationed in Turkey and Africa. Upon his return to the States, he was stationed at Bergstom AFB, Austin, Texas. During that time, Lynden Johnson was President and Ron got secret service clearance to do support work on Johnson's ranch. Ron was honorably discharged from his service in the Air Force in 1965, and the family moved to Michigan. In 1967, the family returned to Humboldt, Kansas, and Ron went to work for Caterpillar in Chanute, Kansas, where he worked for 10 years. After that, he went to work for Monarch Cement in Humboldt where he worked until his retirement in 2005.
Ron's greatest joy was the time spent in the garage. He built many race cars and loved the races. That enjoyment was passed on to his children. He was happiest when he was able to fix something for someone.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father Joseph Murcko; step-mother Jean Murcko; mother Elsie Piccobotta; step-father Tullio Piccobotta; brother John Murcko; and sister Judy Murcko.
Ronald is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; children Teresa (Keith) Nickell of Chanute, Kansas, Michael Murcko of Dallas, Texas, and Richard (Tina) Murcko of Iola Kansas; grandchildren Sara Dietrich, Shannon Osborn, Callie Murcko, Jorja Murcko, Codi (Michael) Middleton, Ty (Chase Sigg), Stefani Nickell, Stephan Nickell; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings Rocky Piccobotta, Risa Herrick, Tina Dinnan, Diana McDaniel, Terri Naismith, Nancy Bindon, and Dan Murcko.
A visitation for Ronald will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church, 806 N. 9th, Humboldt, Kansas. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
