Roxie Riley, age 80, of Richmond, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born October 3, 1928 at Neosho, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Susie (Boggs) Murphy. She graduated from Liberal, Missouri High School and from Pittsburg State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kansas. Roxie married James Wayne Riley on May 28, 1949 at Bentonville, Arkansas. This union was blessed with three children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Susie Murphy; her husband, Wayne Riley on June 25, 1976; her daughter, Colleen Watts; four sisters and one brother. Roxie is survived by two sons, Eldon Riley and fiance Teresa of Garnett, Kansas; Jim Riley and wife Krystal of Richmond, Kansas; three brothers, George Murphy of Sublett, Kansas; Jack Murphy of Joplin, Missouri; and Bob Murphy of Maryland; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Roxie was a school teacher for well over twenty years. She taught several of the area one room school houses. Along with teaching, she also worked on the family farm with Husband Wayne until 1973. Soon after Wayne's passing, she started a ceramic shop in Richmond. She volunteered at Richmond Health Care and at Golden Heights in Garnett, helping the residents with ceramics. She also volunteered at the ARC thrift shop in Garnett. Roxie will be sadly missed by her family and those who knew her. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Richmond Community United Methodist Church, Richmond, Kansas; burial to follow at the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, on Monday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Family suggests memorial contributions to the Richmond Health Care and Rehabilitation Center Craft Fund.
