Roy A. "Pete" Gordon, age 82, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Monday, August 24, 2009, at the Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas following complications of diabetes and heart failure. Pete was born on March 18, 1927 in Coffey County, Kansas, the son of Perry and Mary (Studebaker) Gordon. Following the death of his mother when he was two, he was raised by and later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Johnnie and Matilda Gordon. Pete grew up in the Harris area. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1948. Pete farmed with brother, Lynn Ervin for many years. On October 21, 1951, Pete was united in marriage to Maxine Steward in Garnett, Kansas. They made their home in the Springfield neighborhood near Bush City, where he was a farmer and a stockman, and a school bus driver. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and A.R.C. He enjoyed drinking coffee, fishing, and hunting, his foster kids, children and grandchildren. Pete loved life and truly enjoyed the farm and all of the people he would meet. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine Gordon, on June 25, 1997; brothers, Wayne and Lynn Ervin Gordon; and sister, Barbara Hampton. He is survived by two sons, Mark Gordon and wife Suzanne of Meriden, Kansas; Jon Gordon and fiance' Janon Romines of Garnett, Kansas; three daughters, Janet Stegner and husband Gordon of Chilhowee, Missouri; Yvonne Ryan and husband Kevin of Burlington, Kansas; Angie Gordon of Overland Park, Kansas; two brothers, Robert Gordon of Pomona, Kansas; Jim Gordon of Pomona, Kansas; three sisters, Esther Certain of Garnett, Kansas; Doris Shelton of Olathe, Kansas; Dottie Thompson of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Maxine Gordon of Garnett, Kansas; seven grandchildren, John and Barbara Stegner, Gabe and Melissa Shepherd, Julie and Anthony Youngblood, Crystal and Lyndsay Ryan, Logan and Roy Allen Wayne Gordon; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening, August 28, 2009, at the funeral home in Garnett.
