Rozena Mae Smitheran, age 91, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on May 31, 2015, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas. She was born on August 31, 1923 at Centerville, Kansas. Rozena was the second of four children born to Earnest and Marilla (Martin) Campbell. She graduated from Parker High School in 1941. Rozena was united in marriage to Paul Hill Smitheran on May 5, 1945, in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Carl and Claudia. Following high school she worked for the railroad for a short time before teaching school at Findley for one school year in 1942. She later worked at the Garnett Sewing Factory, before going to work for Goppert Enterprises in the Bush City Bank, and then in the Colony Bank, retiring in 1986. Rozena and her husband were very active in supporting the founding of the Rail Trail in Garnett. She also designed and entered many award winning floral arrangements at the Anderson County Fair. Rozena was very active in the community, serving as treasurer of the ARC association and the garden club. She volunteered at the ARC Thrift shop and was a member the Centerville Community Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Paul Smitheran, on January 8, 2008; her brother, George Campbell; and her sister, Eunice Beasterfield. Rozena is survived by her two children, Carl Smitheran and wife, Patricia of Council Grove, Kansas, Claudia Smitheran of Garnett; one grandson Brent Smitheran and wife Tiffany of Spring Hill, Kansas; two granddaughters, Kimberly Bachand of Sedalia, Missouri, and Julie Waltemath and husband Troy of Augusta, Kansas; two great grandsons, Skyler and Bryson Smitheran; and one sister, Ernestine Smitheran of Garnett. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
