He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1955 to 1963, a member of AMA and MECA
For those who knew him he was a simple man. He did so many remarkable things during his lifetime that he really never spoke of. Such as designing and building the models of aircraft for the government, starting at the age of 16 and while he served in the Air Force. Working for John Hopkins and doing top secret work, studying the planets to see if there was water vapor for signs of life. Working for Bechtel Power corporation and designing and building the models of all of the nuclear power plants in the United States. Finishing his career at Optelecom working on a missal for the government.
He loved to have a good time and make others laugh. He loved children and spent a lot of time playing Santa or the Easter Bunny during those holidays. He loved his engines and airplanes and made so many friends from all over the world from his hobby.
Russell always felt he was beyond blessed and wanted to always help those that were less fortunate.
Russell was the beloved husband of Christine M. (Dieker) Gardner; surviving in addition to his wife are son Glenn Russell Gardner of Greenbelt, MD and daughter Nancy Flynn Gardner and companion Frederick of Salt Point, NY.
