Ruth M. Prather, age 97, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Rock Creek of Ottawa in Ottawa, Kansas.
Ruth Margaret Thornbrugh was born on June 15, 1925, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Fetty) Thornbrugh. Ruth grew up in Pomona and LeLoup. Following high school she moved to Kincaid, Kansas to work as a telephone operator, where she met her future husband, Jack L. Prather. On April 25, 1942 Ruth and Jack were married at Fredonia, Kansas. This marriage was blessed with three children, James L., Donald Wayne and Carolyn "Carol". They made their home in Ottawa after Jack worked in an airplane manufacturing facility in Seal Beach, California during WWII. Throughout her life, Ruth was dedicated to her family, her love for them was baked into every dish she made for them as she was an excellent cook. Her grandchildren will cherish their memories of Grandma's toy room. Family birthday celebrations will not be the same without Ruth's, made from scratch, German Chocolate cake. Ruth loved taking long drives exploring the back roads with Jack.

Ruth is survived by her three children; Jim Prather and wife, Dana Holmstrom, of Hillsboro, Oregon, Wayne Prather of Ottawa, Kansas, and Carol Mora and husband, Louis Mora, of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jason Mora, Melissa Mora, Amy Hind, Megan Raushenberger; and four great grandchildren, Nathan Hind, Lydia Raushenberger, Jack Raushenberger, and Jack Mora.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid, Kansas.
