Ruth Richards

Ruth Marie Richards, age 100, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola. Ruth was born August 2, 1913, in Nevada, Missouri, the daughter of Ralph John and Blanche Almira (Tiffany) Conwell. She grew up in the Iola, Gas, and LaHarpe areas and graduated from high school in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She returned to Iola in 1958 where she worked at the Kelley Hotel, Menegays, Iola Deluxe Cleaners and Allen County Hospital in the dietary department. She later filled in at the Iola school cafeterias. Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church in Iola. SURVIVORS: Her 5 Children: John K. Richards of Iola, Gary G. Richards & wife, Sandy of Hazel Park, MI, Carol Large & husband, Robert of Leawood, KS, Pearley L. "Butch" Richards of Overland Park, KS and Larry K. Richards & wife, Karen of Iola 15 Grandchildren and 37 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her 6 siblings, Pauline McVey, Vina Higginbotham, Floyd Conwell, Linnie Shipley, Ruby Rossiter & infant Wanda Conwell. VISITATION: 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Iola.
