Ruth Marie Sluder, age 86, of Rantoul, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Residential Living Center, Garnett. She was born June 24, 1929 in Bell, California, the daughter of James and Marietta (Berg) Smith. Ruth married Paul Sluder on March 28, 1959 in Mexico. They made their home in La Puente, California before moving to Pomona, Kansas in the mid-80s, and then moved to Rantoul in 1999. She was an LPN at Mission Hospital in California for a number of years. Ruth was passionate about her ministry in the church and served as President of the WCTU in Los Angeles for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marietta Smith; husband Paul Sluder; and one brother, Jimmy Smith. Ruth is survived by her children, Robert Sluder and wife Linda of Whittier, California; Ronald Sluder and wife Pam of Rolla, Missouri; Marietta Hamilton and husband Rick of Rantoul, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Riddle of Seal Beach, California; and MaryBelle Shamblin and husband Jerry of Cerritos, California. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Garnett Church of the Nazarene, 258 Park Ave, Garnett, Kansas.
