Sarah Jane Rankin

Sarah Jane Rankin, age 99, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Moran Manor in Moran, Kansas. Jane was born May 21, 1912 at Anthony, Kansas. She was the second of nine children of George W. and Elsie T. (Fasanight) Wolfe. She grew up in Anthony, living there until her family moved to Aurora, Missouri in 1927. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Rolla, Missouri for many years. She later moved to St. Louis and worked as a secretary for Jenkins Music Company. Jane married Earl Rankin in St. Louis in 1952. In 1970 Jane moved to Savonburg to help care for her parents. She worked in the medical records department at the Chanute, Iola and Fort Scott hospitals, before going to work at the Moran Manor in 1973. Jane spent the first years of her retirement taking care of her mother. Jane worked as the Savonburg librarian in her retirement, and she helped serve meals on wheels. She was member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church. Jane liked to sew and tend to her flowers. She was always willing to help someone; this was even true after she was in the nursing home. She was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband, Earl; 4 brothers, Junior, Bascome, Roy, and Donald; 2 sisters, Virginia Malcor and Mae Forrester. Jane is survived by one brother, Gene Wolfe and wife, Joan, of Savonburg, Kansas; one sister, Viola Bradshaw of Sun Valley, California; one brother-in-law, Charles Malcor of Hanover, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Marcene Wolfe of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Elsmore Cemetery, Elsmore, Kansas. She will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Sunday evening at the funeral home in Moran. Memorial contributions may be made to the Savonburg Senior Center or to the Activities at the Moran Manor.
