Scott Powelson, age 68, of Richmond, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kansas following an eight year battle with cancer. Scott was born on May 2, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Calvin Scott Powelson Sr. and Edna Johanna (Brown) Powelson. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1961. Following high school, Scott completed the U.S. Auto Mechanic Trade School in 1962 and the Missouri Auction School in 1967. He was united in marriage to Carol Zwiener on January 6, 1964 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons. Scott's true passion was farming and ranching. To supplement this over a period of time, he worked several jobs including a mechanic at Montgomery Wards in Emporia, Kansas, and worked as an auctioneer in Mound City. He also worked at the Anderson County Sale Barn, Richmond Co-op, and for Ottawa Truck as a lead man. He was preceded in death by his parents. Scott is survived by his wife, Carol Powelson, of the home; his sons, Terry Scott Powelson of Iola, Kansas and Royce Ray Powelson of Richmond, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Crystal Haywood and husband Doug, Misty Powelson, Mindy Powelson, Tyler Powelson, Caleb Powelson, Kyle Powelson and Carson Powelson; and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends on Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Allen Community College Endowment Association.
