Sherrie S. Hursey, age 65, of Iola, Kansas, formerly of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Windsor Place in Iola, Kansas. She was born on June 26, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Velma (Pickering) Vaughn. She attended schools in Corydon, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1965. Sherrie was united in marriage to Kendall Hursey on July 30, 1966. This union was blessed with three children. They later divorced. Sherrie lived in Iowa for most of her life until moving to Lenexa, Kansas in 1976. While her children were young Sherrie was able to be home with them and she served as P.T.A. president while they attended Bonjour Elementary. She later began working outside of the home and worked as an accounts payable/receivable specialist for several businesses before working as customer service manager for JC Penney. She was preceded in death by her parents. Sherrie is survived by two daughters, Christine Honn and husband Rodney of Kincaid, Kansas; Carrie Thompson of Salina, Kansas; one son, James Hursey and wife Samantha of Olathe, Kansas; brother Gary Vaughn and wife Kate of Chicago, Illinois; and eight grandchildren, Samantha, Kaylla, Rebecca, Melissa, Heather, Haley, Hannah and Lucas. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Following the visitation Sherrie will be cremated with inurnment following in the Corydon, Iowa cemetery at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 16, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Heart of America and sent in care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, PO BOX 408, Garnett, KS 66032.
