Shirley married Joe Dean Ludlum of Elsmore on April 16, 1950 at Savonburg, Kansas. They initially made their home on a farm west of Elsmore before purchasing the farm they lived on for over 40 years. Shirley was a member of the Elsmore United Methodist Church, Town and Country Women's Club, Azrium Temple Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of the Nile Tri County Shrine Club. While living in Moran she enjoyed attending events at the Moran Senior Center. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles, and playing cards with family and friends. As a young girl Shirley loved playing softball and spent many years coaching softball. She was always up for shopping, especially stopping at garage sales. Nothing was more important than spending time with family. Trips back to Medicine Lodge for the Peace Treaty Pageant will also be cherished memories for those who went with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and four sisters, Calvin Jackson, Fern Jackson, Dean Jackson, Ruth McEndree, Stella Ludlum, and Lila Ludlum.
