Shirley P. McGrew, 81, of Iola, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Shirley was born September 21, 1928, at Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Imo (Burger) Wright. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1946. On February 10, 1951, Shirley married Jack L. McGrew in Iola where they made their home. She worked as a secretary for Eastern Kansas Gas for 8 years and as a guidance secretary at Iola High School for 26 years. Jack preceded her in death on February 26, 2010. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola where she was part of the Home Builders class. She was also a Lioness for the Iola Lion's Club. Shirley enjoyed flowers, Nascar racing and all kinds of sports. SURVIVORS: Her 2 Children: Bob McGrew & wife, Nancy of Newport Beach, CA and Ruth Vincent & husband, Jack of Iola, KS 3 Granddaughters: Kristi Bettega & her husband, Chris of Pittsburg, KS, Jana Garver & her fiance, Paul Eyler of Iola, KS and Dr. Megan McGrew of Chicago, IL 1 Great Grandson: Brady Bettega of Pittsburg, KS She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Martin "Marty" Wright. Cremation has taken place. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. The Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church an hour prior to the service. INURNMENT: Highland Cemetery in Iola following the service MEMORIAL CHOICES: Calvary United Methodist Church, Windsor Place or Allen County Hospice Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
