Stephen Ben Anderson, 63, passed away suddenly on February 28, 2013 in Wichita, surrounded by family. He was born August 16, 1949 in Iola, the son of Glen and Ruth McBrayer Anderson. Steve spent thirty-six years advocating for children and families as a social worker with Kansas Social Rehabilitation Services, retiring in 2010. He waited a very long time to find the love of his life, Barbara Chalker, and they were married on June 19, 2010. Steve had a great love of nature and animals, and was a firm believer in the Star Trek Prime Directive. Nearly everyone who met him became a friend of the gentle giant. He was never far away from his beloved dog, Poe. Steve is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughters Suzann Holland, Miranda Jones, and Amber Anderson, his stepchildren Monica Ellis, Ben Bockover, Cari Jo Bockover, and Rachel Bockover, his sister Lucille Treganowan, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and his many friends. Cremation has taken place. MEMORIAL CELEBRATION: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
