Susan Clark "Susie" Bubna

Susan Clark Costabile Bubna passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her family. Susie was born in Bronx, New York, on June 9, 1956, the daughter of Douglas and Doris Costabile of Murray Hill, New Jersey. Susie met the love of her life, Stephen Bubna, and they were married December 26, 1981, Chatham, New Jersey. Throughout her life, Susie had a love for learning and majored in Medieval Renaissance History at Brown University before pursuing a BSN in nursing at Rhode Island College in Providence. In 2013, Susie earned a Master of Arts in theater from the University of Kansas. After raising her three daughters, she returned to work as a nurse and for over 10 years, took care of patients both as a floor nurse and diabetes educator at Olathe Medical Center. Susie was a cherished member of her community and church in Colony and had a vibrant faith in God. She and her husband Steve have pastored the Colony Community Church since 1992. Susie delighted in working with youth in the community; she served as a drama coach at the high school for several years, for 20 years coordinated Good News Club -- a Bible club for elementary students -- and directed theater for young adults with the Garnett Chamber Players Community Theater. Susie also loved to offer hospitality -- she and Steve opened their home to many in their community and for several years, had exchange students and young adults live with them in their home. Susie had many passions; chief among them were her family, her church, youth in her community, and enjoying the outdoors, especially in Montauk, New York, where she grew up spending her summers. In her younger years, she enjoyed snow skiing and sailing. In later years, she enjoyed traveling, biking, writing poetry, and taking care of her farm animals, especially her chickens. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Doris Costabile. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Bubna of the home; three daughters, Sarah Bubna, Kristi Bubna, and Caitlin Bubna Vansant and husband, Nick, all of Lawrence, Kansas; brother Joseph Costabile of Marlton, New Jersey; and sister Kathleen Snyder of Millington, New Jersey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Crest High School, 603 East Broad St., Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow at Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Colony Community Church, 322 Garfield St., in Colony.
