The Rev. Ronald Lorenzo Bumstead died on June 6, 2013, at Heritage Health Care in Chanute. Born Dec. 17, 1927, to Oliver Wellington Bumstead and Margaret Smith in Detroit, Mich., he spent the first 32 years in Michigan prior to his move to Kansas. He was in the Army National Guard as part of a mortar crew. He attended Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti as a pre-med student. He worked nine years on a survey crew in Michigan. In 1954, he felt the calling. On July 2, 1955, he married Connie Jo McKinley in Pontiac, Michigan. He continued his education at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas and was ordained a United Methodist minister in 1962. He and his wife, Connie, who survives, served many churches in the Kansas East Conference prior to his retirement in 1994. He continued serving churches in his retirement until 2004, when they moved back to Humboldt. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Ramona Cabbad, Brooklyn, NY; son, Ronald, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Humboldt; a daughter-in-law, Pam of Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Kevin and his wife, Sue of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Jonathan and his wife, Lynn of Overland Park; and a daughter, Beth Ann of Pittsburg; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kim. Cremation was performed. Visitation will be on Monday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. and a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
