Thelma F. Foster, 94, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Thelma was born May 30, 1915, in Tarkio, Missouri, the daughter of John A. and Ethel (Plotner) Brown. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Morehead, Kansas. She graduated from Morehead High School and then moved to the Altamont area where she lived most of her life. She worked as a deputy clerk for Labette County from 1965 until 1977 and then served as Labette County Clerk from 1977 until 1985. On May 26, 1956, Thelma married Herman L. "Cy" Foster. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2000. She moved to Iola in 2003 to be near family. She enjoyed making all kinds of crafts, crocheting, quilting, growing flowers and traveling. Thelma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altamont and the Order of the Eastern Star Progress Chapter No. 136 in Erie. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: DeWayne Vance of Iola, KS 1 Step-Son: David Foster & wife, Peggy of Dallas, TX 1 Step-Daughter: Sharon Moore of Oswego, KS 1 Sister: Inez Dittman of Dewey, OK 7 Grandchildren: Jeff Vance & wife, Holly; Janet Marlow & husband, Dana; Tammie Box & husband, Dan; Stacie McLemore & husband, Josh; Stanley Rakes & wife, Tracy; Lonnie Rakes & wife, Kim; and Kimberly Kirk 17 Great Grandchildren & 8 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Chastain, great granddaughter, Angel Dawn Marlow, and daughter-in-law, Cathrine Vance. VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church at Altamont, Kansas. Pastor Tom Reazin will officiate.
