Thelma Louise Monroe, age 86, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at her home after an eight month battle with cancer. She was born on August 9, 1927, the youngest child of Walter Irvin and Allie Rae (West) Farrar. She graduated from Garnett High School in 1945. On August 19, 1946, she married Charles (Sam) Borovicka. They lived in Flagstaff, Arizona for a short time and then moved to Greeley, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. Sam and Thelma later divorced. She married Bud Monroe on April 2, 1971. Thelma worked and retired from the Osawatomie State Hospital in Osawatomie, Kansas. After retirement, she had the opportunity to travel some and enjoy many happy times with family and friends. She enjoyed playing Domino's and cards with her friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Red Hats, both of Garnett. Thelma was preceded in death by her son, Dale Borovicka; her parents; two brothers, Hubert and Dallas Farrar; and her sister, Blanche Weatherbie; nieces, Dorothy Johnston and Jane Clark; nephew, Dennis Farrar; great nephews, Kenny Weatherbie and Jared Miller; and husband, Bud Monroe. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Rae Soetaert and husband Mike; two grandsons, Ryan Ellis and Nathan Ellis and wife Jill; and her one and only great granddaughter, Taylor Ellis, all of Lenexa, Kansas; many nieces, nephews; and many friends. Thelma will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. Family will greet friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to W.I.N.G.S. and left in care of the funeral home.
