Thelma B. Moore, age 104, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Golden Heights Living Center, Kansas. She was born February 6, 1905, on a farm west of Welda in Anderson County, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Carnes) Bloom, one of seven children. She attended Welda schools and graduated with the Class of 1925 from Welda High School. Thelma married Clarence "Cap" Richart, a local oilman, on July 18, 1925. Together they established the sale barn where she worked until 1946. The couple then purchased the 4th Avenue Hotel in downtown Garnett and operated it for 18 years, selling it due to Cap's health. He preceded her in death in 1965. She married Ivan Moore of Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1968. He preceded her in death also. She was known in later years for her philanthropic support of numerous local organizations and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garnett. Thelma was preceded in death by both husbands; her step-son Carl Richart; her parents; two brothers, Ted Bloom and Ernest Bloom; three sisters, Bertha McKinzie, Fern Nokes, and Faustina Powell; two half sisters, Zibbie Bloom and Daisy Moore, and one half brother, George Bloom. She is survived by one sister, Helen Bingamon of Garnett; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Garnett, Kansas, with burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
