Tom Mersman, age 77, of Paola, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Tom was born February 17, 1948 in Garnett, Kansas to Ralph and Florence (Wolken) Mersman. Tom graduated from Garnett High with the Class of 1966. On September 7, 1968 Tom was united to the love of his life, Lynette Newman. The union was blessed with three children.
Tom had a passion for golfing and bowling along with being an avid Chiefs and Royals fan. He loved putting together jigsaw puzzles and had them displayed at his home. Tom also enjoyed hosting poker games. Tom's greatest memories were spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was just making memories or attending their activities. After retirement, Tom and Lynette embraced the opportunity to travel together, creating countless memories on adventures with family and friends. These travels were a cherished part of his life, and he found great joy in exploring new places, always accompanied by the people he loved most. His Colorado family was very special to him. He found humor in placing bets with Dave when the Chiefs and Broncos played.
Tom worked for Taylor Forge for 40 years, retiring in 2014. Tom was also a member of the National Guard retiring after 21 years as a 1st Sergeant. Tom served in the Knights of Columbus as a district deputy for two years and was a Grand Knight twice.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ron Mersman.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette Mersman of the home; children, Robin Spencer and husband Sean of Osawatomie, Kansas, Bret Mersman and wife Kathleen of Belton, Missouri, Brian Mersman and wife Rachel of Osawatomie, Kansas, nine grandchildren, Brycen, Samantha, Mackenzie, Kate, Molly, Ryan, Callie, Austin, Abigail, 11 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Udelhofen of Ottawa, Kansas and Cindy Hinkle of Basehor, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kansas, followed by at visitation honoring Thomas' life at 6:30 PM, where family members will be present to receive friends and loved ones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
