Velma Scantlin

Velma Cleo Scantlin, 85, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at Arrowood Lane Residential Care Facility in Humboldt. Velma was born May 25, 1926, in Deerfield, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond and Velma (Roth) Ashley. She was married to Don Scantlin January 29, 1943. They were married for 60 years until his death on July 13, 2003. Velma is survived by one son, Dave Scantlin & wife, Sue of Iola, KS, three daughters, Donna Vohs & husband, Bob of Wichita, KS, Janice Elder and Brenda Lafferty both of Humboldt, KS, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Don, grandson Mike Scantlin, her parents and two sisters. The family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, for visitation before leaving for graveside services at Highland Cemetery in Iola, at 2:30 p.m. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Southern Care Hospice (Pittsburg Branch) and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
