Velma L. Spillman, age 89, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Moran Manor, Moran, Kansas. Velma was born December 13, 1930, on the family farm near Elsmore, Kansas, to Curtis Benton Robb and Mary Alice (Curry) Robb.
Velma attended school at Olive Branch, Moran Rural High School, and graduated Elsmore High School, Elsmore, Kansas. Velma lived most of her life in the Moran community, where she helped her husband, Max, with his farming and cattle operation and raise their family.
Velma and Max Spillman were married on June 15, 1957, in Moran, Kansas. The Spillmans made their home on a farm north of Moran for 61 years.
Velma was known for her fabulous handmade quilts; quilts she sewed entirely by hand and without using a sewing machine. She won numerous awards for her quilts, even being chosen to show one of her quilts at the Paducah, Kentucky, quilt show. Velma was also known for her excellent cooking. Velma enjoyed going to Branson, Missouri, to the quilt shows and country music shows. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them at the family farm.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her parents; and her brother, Kenneth Robb.
Velma is survived by two sons, James Spillman, Moran, Kansas, and Samuel Spillman and wife, Nealie, Pittsburg, Kansas; three daughters, Joyce Storrer, Moran, Kansas, Phyllis Cooper and husband, Matt, Moran, Kansas, Beth Hurd and husband, Rich, Havana, Kansas; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and her beloved four-legged friend, Jake.
A graveside service for Velma will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020, at Fairview Cemetery, Mildred, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the United Ostomy Association, and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
