Vincent E. Culbertson, 97, left this world and went home to Jesus on January 27th, 2013 at Chanute Health Care Center in Chanute, KS. Vincent was born to George W. Culbertson and Ida E. (Geddes) Culbertson on December 15, 1915. Vincent had three siblings. One sister, Velma, two brothers, G. Kenneth and Eugene. All have preceded him in death. On December 25, 1940, Vincent married Betty L. Biggs. They lived their lives together on the Culbertson Homestead in rural Iola which was established by his Grandfather, R.E. Culbertson, in 1861. Betty preceded him in death in 1996 after a long battle with cancer. Together they raised 7 children, Robert V. Culbertson, wife Rose of Coffeyville, KS, Bill E. Culbertson, wife Christina of Topeka, KS, Mary E. Wood, husband Don of Elk City, KS, George E. Culbertson, wife Cindy, rural Iola, KS, Eric G. Culbertson, (deceased 1964), Roy L. Culbertson, rural Iola, KS, and Ben E. Culbertson, wife Nancy of Nevada, MO. Vincent was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church of rural Iola. Vincent is survived by many Grand Children and many, many Great and Great Great Grand Children. Vincent attended the Onion Creek School, rural Iola and Iola High School. Vincent was a farmer and very proud to be one. He also worked part time in the oil fields to help make ends meet. He loved to see things grow and to know that he had a part in that. He loved to be outdoors and enjoy nature. As a young man he enjoyed playing the violin. He was a very good carpenter which he really enjoyed. He loved working with his hands and was very good at whatever he was doing. Vincent also enjoyed going on road trips with his family to see and experience new things. Vincent was a quiet and soft spoken man. He never asked for much and yet he gave so much to anyone and everyone. Vincent spent the last few years of his life living with his son George and wife Cindy on the Culbertson Homestead that he loved so much. In July of 2012 he became a resident of the Chanute Health Care Center due to failing health. Vincent will be dearly missed by not only his family, but by anyone who ever knew him. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola.
