Violet Opal Lee, 93, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas. Violet was born December 16, 1917, in Ellsinore, Missouri, the daughter of Miles Berry and Nettie Burlington (Rodgers) Raymer. She grew up in Ellsinore and East St. Louis, Illinois. On January 30, 1938, Violet married Harry Jameson Lee, Sr. in St. Louis, and they made their home in St. Louis. After Harry served in the military, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. After their home was destroyed by a flood in 1951 they moved to LaHarpe where they purchased the LaHarpe Telephone Company. He preceded her in death on February 29, 1980. Violet was a former member of the LaHarpe Christian Church and was presently attending Rivertree Christian Church. Violet was a passionate supporter of the LaHarpe community. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Harry Lee, Jr. & wife, Joyce of LaHarpe, KS 1 Daughter: Carol Higginbotham & husband, Tom of Iola, KS 12 Grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matheau Chapman, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at LaHarpe City Hall in LaHarpe, Kansas. Pastors Bill LaPorte and Matt Bycroft will officiate. BURIAL: LaHarpe Cemetery MEMORIAL: Allen County Animal Rescue Foundation (ACARF) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
