Virgil H. Solomon, 94, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Chanute HealthCare Center. Virgil was born March 2, 1918, at Rose, Kansas, the son of Fred and Edna (Brown) Solomon. He grew up on the family farm west of Humboldt before serving in the United States Army during World War II. On September 16, 1945, Virgil married Carol Shike in Humboldt at the Evangelical Church. They made their home and farmed west of Humboldt. They retired in 1976 and moved to Chanute. Virgil was a member of the Chanute Church Of The Nazarene, Chanute V.F.W. Post #1654, and he had served as a project leader for the M.R.B. 4-H Club while raising his family. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. SURVIVORS: His wife of 67 years: Carol E. Solomon of Chanute HealthCare Center 1 Son: Ron Solomon of rural Yates Center, KS 2 Daughters: Juanell Garrett & husband, Bob of Lansing, KS, and Faith Shimko & husband, Andrew of Wichita, KS 1 Son-In-Law: Gary Smith of Wichita, KS 1 Brother: Eugene Solomon & wife, Virginia of Chanute, KS 15 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Smith, sisters Margaret and Edith Solomon and his brother, Arthur Solomon and wife, Wilma. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the Chanute Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Andrew Shimko will officiate. BURIAL: Mt.
