Virginia "Gin" Peters

May 7, 1952 — June 4, 2024

Virginia "Gin" Lea Peters, age 72, passed away on June 4, 2024, at her home in Iola, Kansas.

Gin was born on May 7, 1952, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Enve McDaniel and Mae (Buck) Morris. Her family moved many times before settling down in Iola.

In 1970, Gin was united in marriage to Mark Peters. To this union, two children were born; Brenda and Bryan. Gin worked at many places in Iola, but most enjoyed her last position with Burris Cleaning, later becoming A&B Cleaning. This was primarily because she had seniority and did very much as she pleased.

Gin liked collecting anything with butterflies. She was known as the "Butterfly Lady." She always had a smile on her face and enjoyed everyone. Gin loved going on cruises, and her most memorable one was in 2018, when she and Mark went to Europe on a cruise that took five weeks with Francis and Grace Peters as hosts. She also said the best cruise was when they took four of the grandkids on a cruise. They were young teenagers at the time, and everyone said Gin and Mark were crazy to do it, but they had the best time ever.

Gin enjoyed traveling. She and Mark saw Mount Rushmore (twice), Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and more. Her latest was the trip she and Mark made with Don and Norma McDaniel to Nashville and Williamsburg, and Washington, D.C. in early 2020, before they had to make a mad dash back home to beat the Covid shutdown.

Gin was preceded in death by both of her parents; and two brother-in-laws, Harvey Burris and Johnny Adams.

Gin is survived by her husband; two children; siblings, Ron (Anita) McDaniel, Don (Norma) McDaniel, Juanita Burris, Wanda (Art) Mangus, and Nancy Adams; five grandchildren, Andy, Jake, Alexis, Ashlyn, and Kason; two great-grandchildren, Jayce and Haisley; and many others who loved her.

A memorial service for Gin is planned for Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54 in Iola, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) and left in the care of the funeral home.
