Virginia Nelson

Virginia Nelson, 89, of Iola passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola following a long battle with cancer. She was born March 19, 1928 in Hepler, Kansas to Earl and Myrtle (Barnett) Cochran. She married James R. Nelson October 7, 1950 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Together they had a daughter, Teri. They made their home in Elsmore for many years, and moved to Iola in 2012 due to failing health. She retired from Emprise Bank in Iola in 1990. She was active her entire life, volunteering for ACARF for the past five years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed retired life with her husband, and will long be remembered as a fantastic cook, and a good friend to many. She is survived by her daughter, Teri Porter and husband, Rocky, of Iola, two grandsons, Dustin Hicks and wife, Courtney, of Elsmore, and Tanner Porter of Iola, two great granddaughters, Siena and Harper Hicks, both of Elsmore, and two step granddaughters, Jennifer Friend, Lisa Maloney and families, of Iola. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2012, and by her parents. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Moran, with a brief memorial service at 7:30. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
