Vivian Henkle, age 97, of Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. Vivian Grace Flake Henkle, the daughter of Erven Leslie Flake, Sr. and Alta Jaly Gillespie Flake was born on a farm northwest of LeRoy on December 3, 1913. She grew up in the LeRoy area, graduated from LeRoy High School and taught in the rural schools in Coffey County. She was united in marriage for 62 years to Max A. Henkle in 1937 and they moved to their farm home north of Iola in 1950 where they lived for nearly 50 years. Mrs. Henkle was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the Allen County Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter, Alta Jo (Jody) (Clint) Holston, Leavenworth, KS, daughter-in-law, DeLena Henkle, Abilene, KS, and brother, Leslie (Betty) Flake, Jr., Topeka, KS; grandchildren Craig (Becky) Henkle, Spring Hill, KS, Jeff (Suzanne) Henkle, Kansas City, MO, Ryndell Little (Troy) Montgomery, DeSoto, KS, and Casey Holston, Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren Cole, Jaylee and Sarah Henkle, Britta, Sawyer, Lily and Sophie Henkle, and Madelyn Dawn, Vivian Lane, Mia Grace and soon-to-be Maxwell Sutter Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erven Leslie and Alta Jaly Flake, husband, Max Henkle, son Max L. Henkle and sister, Eloise Hamman. VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola.
