Walter Allen Jones, 91, of La Harpe joined his wife Arlene in heaven on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Arrowood Lane in Humboldt. He was born August 23, 1926 to Elmer and Fern (Searcy) Jones at their home near La Harpe. He lived on farms north and south of Moran. He attended Mildred High School. He worked on his folks' farm and rode his bicycle to help on the neighbors' farm. He worked for McAdam Construction operating bulldozers and graders. He married Arlene Jarred January 1, 1948 while she taught school. They lived in Iola on 2nd Street. Walter was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended artillery training in Louisiana before being shipped to Japan, where they were in need of medics. He trained for a couple of weeks before he was sent to the front lines to retrieve wounded soldiers. When he returned to the States he hauled for Pet Milk for 10 years. In 1960 he and Arlene purchased a farm south of La Harpe where they spent the rest of their years growing and tending crops and cattle. Mr. Jones is survived by his son, Roger and wife, Susan, of Iola, daughter, Regina Young and husband, Guy; five grandchildren, Christopher Jones of Iola, Kelly Jones and wife, Charity, of Iola, Ryan Jones of Parsons, Jennifer Sprague and husband, Brandon, and Kristen Bevard; great grandchildren, Breakin and Gage Jones of Iola; a sister, Betty Gillham of Fort Scott, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1992, his parents and three brothers, Howard, Donald, and James. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Visitation will begin at 1:00 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Arrowood Lane Assisted Living.
