Warren Garland Patton, age 85, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at his home.
Warren was born on January 18, 1934 at Somerset, Kansas. He was the first born of twin boys to George Albert "Burt" Patton and Nellie (Albertson) Patton. Warren grew up in the Paola area, attending school there. As a boy, he had a newspaper route in Paola. Warren was united in marriage to Bonnie Ruth Morgan on October 12, 1951 in Garnett. This union was blessed with three children. They later divorced in 2000. On September 14, 2002 Warren married Shirley King. They made their home near Greeley where they enjoyed over 17 years of marriage.
Warren served his country for a combined total of 22 years. His military career began when he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was a Korean War veteran, serving one tour in Korea. Following the Marine Corps, he served in the National Guard before entering the US Navy. Warren worked as a Chief Dental Technician until retiring in 1976 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer, after 17 years of service. In his retirement he worked as a house painter and wallpaper hanger. He also enjoyed working on bicycles and gunsmithing. Warren was meticulous in his work and took great pride in all that he did. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, bicycle riding, camping and reloading ammunition. He was the bane of crows, but he also liked to hunt coyotes, prairie dogs, quail, rabbits and squirrels.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Ward, and sister, Darline Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; his daughters, LeAnn and Susan; son, Warren Matthew, step-daughters, Andrea and Alice; brother, Vernon. Warren was like a father to his first four grandchildren, Aimee, Michael, Alissa and Ashley. He was blessed with a total of 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Warren will be remembered as a man with a big heart who made friends easily and was always willing to help out. His eccentric humor and his knowledge of the past will be missed. His family will cherish the childhood stories and his military experiences that he shared.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Cemetery, Greeley, Kansas. The family will greet friends at the funeral home in Garnett from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday evening . Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
