Wayne Lee McVey, 86, of Wichita, Kansas, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at his home. Wayne was born July 20, 1925, in Allen County, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Pauline (Davis) McVey. He grew up in the LaHarpe area. On July 9, 1944, Wayne married Verna Belle Crone. After farming for several years in the Bronson, Colony and LaHarpe areas, he went to work for Milne & Mann Tire and Recapping Company in Iola. The company later transferred him to Kansas City where he recapped tires for Dealer's Transport. The couple returned to LaHarpe in 1983 and operated the McVey Grocery for several years. Wayne then ran a trash route until suffering a heart attack. In 1999, they moved to Wichita to be near family. Verna preceded him in death on November 14, 2000. Wayne was a avid fisherman and card player. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Bobbie McVey & wife, Elizabeth of Kansas City, MO 2 Daughters: Sharon Kay Malloy & husband, Harvey of Wichita, KS, and Beverly Sue Shepard & husband, Charles of Wichita, KS 3 Brothers: Earl McVey of Hutchinson, KS, Dale McVey of Iola, KS, and Vernon McVey of Tyro, KS 1 Sister: Delma Nutz of Iola, KS 6 Grandsons, 1 Granddaughter, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. BURIAL: Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, KS MEMORIAL: American Heart Association Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
