Wendell Wayne Frazell of Iola died January 1, 2013 in his home. He was 87 years old. Wendy was born April 19, 1925 in Iola, Kansas to the late Jay C. Frazell and Ethel M. (Baker) Frazell. He grew up in Iola and attended the Iola schools. On December 28, 1944, Wendy married Georgia L. Blohm. Georgia preceded Wendy in death December 28, 2011. Wendy served in the United States Navy in World War II, from 1943-1945. He was a Coxswain Boatswain's Mate on the naval ship Allioth. The ship and sailors sailed to Pearl Harbor after its bombing. Years later, while vacationing in Oahu, Hawaii, Wendy was honored to raise the American flag at the Arizona Memorial. Wendy also enjoyed the honor flight to Washington, D.C. to see The World War II Memorial with fellow servicemen. Wendy graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1952. He was a teacher and coach at the Uniontown and LyCygne High Schools. He was happy to return to Iola, to teach and coach at the high school in 1962. He also served as the athletic director for several years retiring in 1990. Wendy enjoyed being around his students, and tried to make a difference in their lives, like they made in his. Wendy enjoyed fishing, gardening, hosting fish fries, and watching his favorite team, the Pittsburg State Gorillas, and loved being with family and friends. He is survived by a daughter Linda Monninger and husband Joe of Iola; three sons, Kent Frazell and wife Peggy of Chanute; Craig Frazell and wife Sharon of Kincaid; and Jay Don Frazell and wife Tammi of Iola. Grandchildren Denise Umphenour and husband Gary; Lee Anne Ewing and husband Tom; Scott Monninger; Tara Small and husband Chad; Clete Frazell and wife Jill; Curt Frazell and fiance Allison Koehler; Preston Frazell and girlfriend Kelli Campbell; Hunter Frazell; Chelsey Brooks and Connor Frazell. Great grandchildren, Makenzi Umphenour; Madison Umphenour; Sydney Ewing; Brock Small; Cade Small; Bo Small; and Gage Frazell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Elmer and Clyde Frazell. Cremation has taken place.
