William Hewitt (Bill) Burche, age 92, formerly of Moran, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Country Place Senior Living, Chanute, Kansas. Bill was born September 4, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas, to Armor Burche and Vena A. (Hall) Burche. Bill graduated from Moran High School, Moran, Kansas. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and then returned to Moran where he was a farmer and dairyman his entire life. Bill married Velva Thompson on April 3, 1993, in Moran, Kansas. Velva preceded him in death on September 11, 2012. Bill loved to fish, hunt quail, enjoyed music, and gardening. He was involved as an active member of the Moran American Legion for over 60 years. Bill enjoyed holidays, family dinners, and gatherings at the family farm. Bill’s ethic for hard work was passed on to his niece and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and one brother, Donald Burche. Bill is survived by niece, Dee Williams and husband, Ken, Chanute, Kansas; nephews, Doug Burche and wife, Shirley, Olathe, Kansas, Dan Burche and wife, Cecilia, Providence, Rhode Island, David Burche and wife, Nancy, Hollister, Missouri; and many great- and great-great- nieces and nephews. A funeral service honoring Bill’s life will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Burial with military honors will follow in Moran Cemetery, 3850 Nebraska Road, Moran, Kansas.
