William Edward "Bill" Burt, age 90, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. Bill was born September 6, 1928, in Bronson, Kansas to Archie and Ethel (Perry) Burt.
Bill grew up in Hermann, Missouri and attended school there. On June 12, 1949, he married Maxine Greer at the Methodist Church in Hermann, Missouri. They celebrated 70 years of marriage. In 1952, they moved to a farm in Bronson, Kansas, where Bill worked for his Uncle Roy Perry. In 1956, they moved to a farm southeast of Moran. He went to work for Arnold Johnson in the oil fields and later for Mack Colt. Bill then worked for H.K. Porter in Chanute for 10 years, and later for Klein Tools in Moran. From 1983 until his retirement in 1993 Bill worked as a truck driver for Midland Berg in Iola. After retirement Bill and Maxine spent 13 summers working in Yellowstone Park, and also one year at Bryce Canyon, Utah.
Bill was a longtime member of Moran Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling and always had a hobby to work on, such as woodworking. He made a foot stool for each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with their names carved on the top. Bill also made cowboys out of horse shoes and even sold several in Wyoming at a western store.
He was preceded in death by one son Steven; one daughter Linda; his parents; a sister; brother-in-law; and two nephews.
Bill is survived by his wife, Maxine, of the home; sons, Robert Burt and wife, Sheila, David Burt and wife, Brenda, all of Chanute, Kansas; daughter Denise Burt of Moran, Kansas; daughter-in-law Janet Burt of Hepler, Kansas; six grandchildren, Michael Burt and wife, Stephanie of Chanute, Kansas, Kristina Seastrom of Helper, Kansas, Stacey Yartz and husband, Kyle of Frontenac, Kansas, Carrie Moore and husband, Jason, Chanute, Kansas, Josh Burt and Austin Burt, both of Chanute, Kansas; seven great-grandchildren, Alexander, William, and Gabrella Yartz, Isaiah and Mattea Moore, Hunter and Leyton Burt; two step-great-grandchildren, Arianna and Grayson Henderson; and numerous other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Moran United Methodist Church in Moran, Kansas. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Venue, Iola.
