Wilma E. Mardick, 98, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Fountain Villa in Iola. Wilma was born October 6, 1911 at Westphalia, Kansas, the daughter of William and Lavina (Satler) O'Banion. She attended public schools in Westphalia and graduated from Westphalia High School. On October 6, 1931, Wilma married Laurence L. Mardick at Garnett, Kansas. They have made their home in Iola since 1935. Mr. Mardick preceded her in death on March 16, 1987. Wilma was a loving homemaker, deeply devoted to family. She enjoyed bowling, KU basketball and Royals baseball. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and many projects around the home. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Darlene Thurman and husband, Tom of Iola, KS 1 Son: Max Mardick and wife, Nancy of Golden, CO 6 Grandchildren: Kim Bruner of Moran, KS, Becky Helms of Iola, KS, Kristi Mohler of Derby, KS, Sharolyn Stanley and Karl Mardick of Houston, TX and Craig Mardick of Golden, CO 2 Step-Grandchildren: Jason Thurman of LaHarpe, KS and Laynie Wrabek of Chanute, KS 11 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandsons She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julie Mardick and a great grandson, Kent Jackson. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will gather at 10:30a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola before leaving in procession for Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 11:00. The Rev. Bill LaPorte will officiate. MEMORIAL: Allen County Hospice Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
